Whistling Frog
Whistling Frog Productions

Whistling Frog Productions is part of HCJB Global's radio department in the UK. We specialise in the spiritual, actively seeking opportunities to place programmes which tackle the bigger questions of life, onto commercial radio stations - in the form of ads, thoughts and features.
Our award-winning production team has been building creative audio productions for the UK commercial radio industry since 1997. Commissioning stations such as LBC 97.3, The Pulse, Stray FM and Eagle Radio, confirm that it is possible to explore spiritual issues in a commercial radio format, if you tailor your approach and material to the station.
Our ethos is simple: to produce creative, non-cheesy radio for a secular audience on Christian themes, making sure the final product is entertaining, thought-provoking - and definitely not preachy.
Many of our commissions have been funded for broadcast by Jerusalem Productions, one of the Sainsbury family charitable trusts.
The team is also involved in professional radio training in the UK and overseas, as well as running a radio group for volunteers called AMPLIFIED every Tuesday evening in Bradford.
Radio Features
Whistling Frog Productions have been producing special Christian features on local radio in the UK for over a decade. We look for real stories of how God has changed lives and brought hope into dark places. Because the majority of our programmes are made for music-based commercial radio stations they tend to be short, punchy and hard-hitting.
Short Thoughts
Short thoughts, or ‘seed spots’ as they are sometimes known, are another speciality of Whistling Frog Productions. Each reflection, is intended to arouse interest in the gospel, by exploring one aspect of it in relation to a contemporary scene or situation which the listener may identify with - often using humour! No preaching here, just images and stories to stimulate the mind.
Radio Commercials
Whistling Frog Productions made its first set of radio commercials in 2008, a series of ads about happiness played over Christmas and New Year on GWR Bristol. Following that, we made the first ever radio ad for the Back To Church Sunday Campaign in September 2009. This was to encourage people to give church a try and was a great success, with more people coming back than ever that year. Since then we have placed commercials on other stations, such as Key 103 in Manchester, Classic FM and Heart, and are always looking for ways to advertise Christian events, websites or festivals, particularly those of interest to non-Christians.

The Team
Whistling Frog Productions is located in the middle of some 19th century woollen mills in Bradford, West Yorkshire. We have two recording studios and an awful lot of stairs. Here's the team...
Colin Lowther - Director
Colin has worked in radio production and training for 20 years and presented his own Sunday breakfast show on commercial radio in West Yorkshire for 13 years. He lives in Huddersfield, is married to Dawn and has 2 children and a mad cat.

Nick Mangeolles - Programme Manager
Nick is far too creative for his own good. His hobbies are curry and being nice to people. Nick lives in a flat in Bradford but has his eye on a barge... sorry Nick... a narrowboat...

Bruce Gulland - Producer
Bruce has moved down from Glasgow and lives in north east Bradford in the curiously named village of Idle. Keen on writing and acting, Bruce has a range of voices for radio. He also does a scarily authentic impression of a tyrannosaurus rex; we're still thinking about how to use that.

Luke Haley - Production Assistant
Luke likes to believe that he is the sensible, sound minded member of the team. He has trouble convincing his peers of this however. Bradford born and bred, Luke specialises in music, film and all that creative type of stuff.
